Sept 29 – Iain Abernethy Seminar 2018

It only seems only a short while ago that Shikomu Karate Club hosted the first Iain Abernethy Seminar in Burlington in 2014 and I can’t believe that the Seminar in 2018 will be our 5th!

The Seminar will be held on Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30, 2018 and will be held again at the Haber Recreation Centre, 3040 Tim Dobbie Drive, Burlington (closest main intersection is Dundas and Walkers Line).

Pre-registration is currently open. Contact us to register.

This year we will be primarily looking at the “old-school” karate that existed prior to karate adopting the “do-ethos” and spreading worldwide. This will include an examination of some of the Chinese fighting methods that that were instrumental in shaping karate, the 12 two-person drills of Choki Motobu, and the takedowns of Morinobu Itoman! These methods will be of great interest, practically and historically, to all karateka; irrespective of style. We will also be looking at the close-range methods of Tekki / Naihanchi Nidan and Sandan; and showing how they build on the core methods of Shodan. This will include a great deal of clinch-fighting and limb-control. Finally, we will cover a number of Iain’s extremely popular focus mitt drills!

I’m looking forward immensely to the seminar as I’m sure you are as well. It promises to be memorable as always.

Yours in Karate-Do,
